Treetops

Someone’s got to go
Am I the only one who knows?
I’m handing over dreams
to the hole in this machine
Pack it up and drag it out and through
stairs, halls and crowded rooms
Stand in line to see
who will be your company
Work
for everything you’ve heard about
Does it hurt to hear it spoke aloud?
it won’t always be around
Wait patiently
Maybe make some space, give up your seat
Get a handle on it, all along hoping
there’s somewhere else to be
Wait in the cold
with the crowd you don’t know
Take a stance and maybe lose your chance
while the team is on a roll
Stay all alone
till the treetops take you home
Shaking all their heads I’d have to guess
only one stop left to go
I will get there on my own
Maybe I’m to blame
If it’s true then it’s a shame
Hiding underneath the rug I see
there’s a ticket out for me
Sitting on the fence
Nothing said of consequence
Ringing in your ears
gonna be that way for years

I’ve had enough of finding out like this
Bad luck is something I’m familiar with
There’s something wrong with just showing up
with nothing to say
Sometimes I hope you don’t go through with it
Cut off and living like you should’ve been
One second closer to freedom
Other places other people
I think you need them
Just one accident, didn’t know what to say
Now we're holding it up
It’s nothing personal
I didn’t have the time to just throw away
and I won’t be getting it back
You say it’s the only way
Ask once and I will show you honesty
Should I continue living quietly?
There’s nothing wrong with just showing up
to see how it goes
